Aldenham vs Henrietta Barnet School (HBS) – Tuesday 29th January

This Tuesday saw all senior and junior teams take on Henrietta Barnet School in a series of home and away fixtures.

The 1st VII fought a well contested match against a strong and HBS side. Stepping out onto the court, Aldenham were able to dominate from the off with some great defence from Hannah H-C, Ellie Macdonald (POM) and Debbie Okeowo who worked well as unit to turn over the ball. However, some silly mistakes in the attack meant that they finished the first quarter with a 9-9 draw. With some changes made in the second quarter, Aldenham were determined to dominate the court. Some brilliant play in centre court by Imogen Wilson, Emma Conway and Milly Rees allowed Aldenham to gain an impressive 8 goal lead. Despite the cold weather affecting our play, the team were tenacious throughout and determined not to let HBS catch their score line. Megan Yeabsley and Sasha Maconald’s accurate shooting meant that we were able to score from our possession and Aldenham finished the game with a 34-25 win.

The U15A team also travelled away to take on a strong and well-oiled HBS side. With some county players on the opposition team it was clear from the start that it was going to be a tough game. With a strong and impressive warm up behind them, Aldenham were able to control their possession in the first quarter. Some fantastic interceptions from Mitzi Robison and Emily Sellar-Elliot in the defensive circle meant that HBS had to work hard to feed the ball into their attacking circle. However, some fantastic defence in the other end of the court meant Nisa Sadiku and Lily Yousefian struggled to reach the goal over some reactive defensive arms. With a half time score of 10-4 Aldenham were keen to close the score line in the second half of the game. Kira Buttinger, now in the GA position, worked hard to feed the ball into the attacking circle. Despite some connected play between Lily Zentner (POM), Ellie Poulter and Clem McQuoid in the centre court, Aldenham were unable to contest against a physical and dynamic side and lost their game 24-6.

Playing at home, both the U15B and U14A squads struggled against a strong HBS side. The U15Bs struggled with the fast pace of the game, however they showed determination and tenacity to keep up with their opposition. Some great defensive play from Giorgia Megaro, and Irsiya Masood (POM) meant that Aldenham were able to turn over the ball with some key interceptions. However a determined opposition got the better of us and Aldenham lost 30-1.

The U14A team had a similar defeat, again unable to match the speed and physicality of the game. Determined not to be defeated, the squad learnt how to persevere with their game and not give up despite meeting a 49-5 defeat. The opposition were a fantastic team but, despite the score, the girls proved their ability to stay motivated and work as a squad. The execution of some fantastic centre passes, coupled with some impressive interceptions from Jumeriah Francis (POM), helped to keep morale high despite the loss.
